Manuel II Palaeologus, 1391-1425. Half Stavraton (Silver, 20 mm, 3.68 g, 6 h), Constantinopolis, 1403-1425. Nimbate bust of Christ facing, raising his right hand in benediction and holding book of Gospels, flanked by IC - XC; in outer margin, small pellets. Rev. +MANOVHΛ BA[...] ΠΑΛЄ[...] Nimbate and draped bust of Manuel II facing; to left and right, pellet. DOC 1507ff. SB 2551. Beautifully toned. Minor graffiti and with a few light scratches, otherwise, good very fine.

From the collection of Dr. Max Blaschegg (1930-2021, with collector’s ticket), privately acquired from Numismatica Arethusa at the Zurich coin fair on 21 October 1972.
